Grace is a older refined dog with good manners. She will have to warm up to you and introductions will have to be at her pace. She is simular to Thor personality wise. Her and Thor have become buddies while at the shelter. Once Gracie gets to know you she leads well and has great manners. She does well with others.

Gracie needs a rescue or adopter who can place her outside the state of Virginia. She was involved in a mishap with cattle, so cannot be placed in a home with livestock or neighboring cattle. Gracie is a Pit/Shepherd Mix, about six years old and about 65 pounds. She is dog friendly. Gracie has been in the shelter for several months and does not do very well in this environment. We need to get her into a rescue or adopted. If you would like more information on Gracie, please contact the shelter at 276-452-1325.

  • SCAS require that all dogs adopted from us are spayed/neutered, and vaccinated within 30 days of adoption.
  • You will be required to provide us with documentation from your veterinarian’s office within the 30 day time period to prove the dog is spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
  • Dogs that are adopted to out of state residents must be spayed/neutered prior to leaving Virginia (this includes Kingsport and Bristol, TN residents). If the dog is not of age (puppy) to be spayed/neutered then it will not be adopted to individuals that live outside of Virginia.
  • Rescues are not charged a ‘pull fee’ to rescue a dog but may be required to pay a vaccination fee. We welcome your inquiries and will work with you any way we can.
  • State law requires that adopted dogs be sterilized within 30 days of adoption.
